I loved documenting the process of making my wedding dress and watching it evolve from the first ideas to the final garment. If you would like me to make and document your wedding dress creation or anyone else in your bridal party please email me for a quote. My prices are competitive and I will give you the most authentic experience of creating your wedding dress, with an EDITION dress you know the dress is made for you, and only you. It will also allow you to be comfortable all day and night (even play table tennis with a glass of wine in hand!) Photographer | Lauren Campbell - laurencampbell.com.au I knew from the start that I wanted to flatter my body shape, feel comfortable and for the garment to have great movement. I wanted to show off my back as it is my best feature and have a high neck so it looks elegant and hides my neck rash! I love simple dresses and love a center seam as it elongates the body and adds some subtle detail. This practice garment had the slinky feel I was after. I wanted to walk the line between sexy (but not too sexy!) and elegant. I found a beautiful Merino wool blend fabric in a silvery/grey in a small fabric store in Canberra. I bought 2m of the fabric as it was 160cm wide so I knew I could fit my long dress on it. With this dress I wasn't able to make it with zero waste as a very small amount of fabric was left over around the armholes but it was minimal waste. Once I cut out the fabric I pinned it and looked at it on my body to make sure the fabric was falling in the way I wanted and the colour was what I wanted. I decided to overlock the center back and centre front of the dress so that their wasn't a bulky seam as I wanted it to be a subtle feature of the garment and sit close to the body. Around the armholes and neckline that continued down the back I thought I would use binding as the Merino wool is a stretch fabric I didn't want it to stretch and the binding would create a beautiful detail. It took a long time to work out how low I wanted the split at the back to go to as it was an important part of the garment but I also didn't want the straps to fall off my shoulders during the day. Once the binding was stitched on to the dress with my flat machine I decided to hand stitch the binding down around the armholes and neckline that continued down the back. I loved the hand stitched detail (once finished!) during the process I was going a little nutty!! Once I bought my shoes I was able to work out what length I would hem the dress, as I wanted it to be as long as possible without tripping on it! The finishing touch was to add the EDITION label and then the dress was good to go! In the image below hugging my Dad you can see the hand stitched detail around the back and armholes of my dress. The last 4 photos are by photographer Lauren Campbell. My hair was done by Leslie Henshaw and makeup by Hayley Boyle.

A little video from my Aunty of the parade at New Acton. Watch until about 2 minutes in when the beautiful dancers I worked with begin x
On Sunday I had a ball working with an amazing all Canberra team! The brief was to be as creative as possible and at the end of the day we were so happy with how everything came together. Robert Coppa was the awesome photographer, Katie van den Bos came out of retirement to model for us, Leslie Henshaw on hair and Elle Thomas creating beautiful make up. We shot at Nishi and hotelhotel, the shapes and textures inside and out of the hotel are so different to anything else in Canberra and worked with our concept. Cant wait to see the final images!
Shoots are the best and I was so excited to be working with some new faces this time, I will post as soon as I have the pictures! Here are some behind the scene photos to show you the process.
Photographer | Simona Razmoska Model | Lauren Cooper Makeup | Elle Thomas Hair | Sarah Little I feel bad that I haven't posted in a long time! But things have been very busy for EDITION and I am super excited for what 2014 has in store for me.
Currently I am in the process of moving into a new studio which will be great to have my own space and design it for me so it is practical and comfortable to work in. I am also collaborating with an amazing artist for an upcoming performance! More info to follow! Better late than never! A few pictures from behind the scenes of the shoot for Project Upcycle for Nespresso. Was so much fun with a fantastic team.
I think I have been spoilt with Susan Taylor of Department of the Exterior Manuka. She understands EDITION garments and how they work with the body. She is also able to tell the women who are interested in my garments how they were made with sustainable pattern making and that EDITION is currently a one woman show!
After a shocker at Premiere (not a single order in a week tradeshow, but thankfully it wasn't just me!) I have been desperately trying to find other stockists who also understand my garments and what the EDITION label stands for. So I am putting it out there to see if anyone has any suggestions of boutiques that stock labels with similar ideals or aesthetics as EDITION - Australian made - Quality fabrics, sustainable where possible - 30+ women market who are interested in unique, interesting clothing Thanks! Woooohhooooo I have finished my project upcycle for Nespresso! I was very lucky to be asked along with 5 other designers to create a unique garment/artwork out of over 1000 Nespresso capsules. I loved working on this project! If I could do project like this one all year round I would be a very happy lady! The experimenting was the best part of the whole process. Here are some of my favourite ones! An image of the studio first, that was taken over by capsules for 14 days.
Backstage before I showed my collection at Fashfest I was interviewed by Fashion One TV, lovely people to chat to about my concept for the collection. So awkward watching myself but I guess it is good practice! Wow I use my hands alot when I talk!
Last Thursday I opened the Sustainable Threads parade created by art curator Chris Watson for the Belconnen Arts Centre. The collection was brand new to what I showed at Fashfest Canberra a month earlier (madness!) I decided
to use the same concept of the Yarralumla Brickworks and expand on my ideas from Fashfest. I was happy with the relaxed look of the final garments and had fantastic models! Ash pictured on the left above even won the unusual cash prize of 'Best Model'!! The hair from Hair in the City Canberra was fantastic and the makeup girls did a great job. Eric Piris of Red Photography took the beautiful photo above - more soon I hope! I especially like how the wool looks so textured in the photo, very fitting for the Sustainable Threads concept. The majority of the collection was made from NZ Merino wool and cotton jersey. The collection will be available from Department of the Exterior, Manuka ACT from tomorrow. These pieces will be the starting point for my collection that I will be shooting in Melbourne in August! Get excited because I love some good wintery layering! I am very lucky to have such a supportive family - all of them wore EDITION to Fashfest Canberra including my brother and boyfriend! The 1st picture is my beautiful sister and my brothers beautiful girlfriend rocking the green that will be in the new SS13 collection. My mum wore an EDITION dress, cape and scarf. My brother wore an EDITION cardigan that I have had lots of interest in from women, I think I should take the hint that women's wear is what I should stick too!!
Fashfest - show 3 from Screencraft on Vimeo. It has been one week since I showed my collection Remains at Fashfest Canberra 2013. I am finally recovering from the craziness and excitement of it all. It was a great project and the Canberra community have been fantastic in their support in the lead up and on the 4 nights of Fashfest. EDITION starts 7minutes in to the video, although I recommend watching it all!
Transform yourself from Fashfest observer to Fashfest participant! An exclusive opportunity to meet and acquire unique pieces by the designers of leading Canberra labels 4minutes33 and Edition and iconic Melbourne label Materialbyproduct from their Fashfest shows. Sunday 5 May 10am - 3pm, at Department of the Exterior, ground floor,
Manuka Court, 11-17 Bougainville St, Manuka. Call Susan Taylor on 0431372956 for additional information and to book a time with a designer. So I hope to see some of you there on Sunday! The collection is almost finished, looking forward to showing it on Friday night at FASHFEST and then having a celebratory drink! New Winter pieces are now in store! The Hidden tops in red and charcoal, and the Around & Around dress in red. Go in to Department of the Exterior to get your new EDITION Winter garments with the weather changing this week! This is my favourite time of the year and love being able to layer and wear scarves. The Hidden tops have an in built scarf so I have that sorted for you!
2013 has meant new adventures for EDITION! I have started working with a small factory in Melbourne who is certified by Australia Ethical Clothing. This process has been a huge learning experience for both myself and the people I am working with at the factory. As my zero waste pattern making means that my patterns are very different to the traditional patterns it has been a back and forth process to get the garments right. The final outcome has been great and I should receive them on Tuesday after the Easter weekend. It has been great to get a small run made that I do not have to sew myself. Model Annalise Seubert will be wearing my new pieces at a launch for FASHFEST on Thursday!
At the moment I am finalising my collection for the FASHFEST parade on May 3rd. The collection is based around the buildings at the Old Yarralumla Brickworks. I took this photograph when I was at the Brickworks recently - it is such an amazing place. Ill post some photos of me in toiles shortly!
